How can mock polls prove the integrity of the program embedded in the microcontroller which is unreadable by ECI or ECIL or BEL? Remember the microcontrollers and the embedded programs are made by foreign companies, NOT by BEL or ECIL. They ain't indigenous. Why should Indian elections be held using imported components and services compromising the sacred process?

EC team arrives to check EVMs
TNN, Jan 15, 2011, 01.23am ISTKOLKATA: A three-member Election Commission team has reached Bengal to supervise the first-level checking of electronic voting machines (EVMs) for the upcoming assembly elections.
This comes ahead of the visit by a six-member team, led by Bihar CEO Sudhir Kumar Rakesh, to run a check on the state's law and order situation.
PC Gupta, joint CEO of Rajasthan, Anjini Kumar Mishra, deputy CEO of Jharkhand, and N Praveen Singh, joint CEO of Manipur, are the three observers sent by the EC to oversee the examination of EVMs.
While all 93,000 EVMs are going to be checked in the presence of political parties this time, the EC has also instructed mock polls for 10% of EVMs.
This is the first time political parties will witness the checking from the beginning till the end. On Friday, the three observers were busy making sure that the entire procedure was carried out in the prescribed manner. "Mock polls are being conducted to ensure that the EVMs are foolproof," said a source.
With political parties in the past complaining about machine malfunction and tampering, they have been made witness to the checks from the initial stage.
Besides the 93,000 EVMs already present, the EC is also allowing the state to bring in 10,000 others from Uttar Pradesh.
Having already visited Haldia, Egra, Asansol, Nadia, Kolkata South, Kolkata North, Hooghly and Birbhum, the three-member team will soon be going to Uttar Dinajpur, Dakshin Dinajpur and Darjeeling.
Earlier, some observers had been sent to the state to check the electoral roll revision. On Sunday evening, the six- member team will arrive in Kolkata and will, later, tour the districts.
